ANIMAL REPRODUCTION, GYNAECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS
History
The Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics was established during the year 1972 with the inception of the college of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on May 18th, 1972. The Department offers various courses in the discipline of Animal Reproduction to B.V, Sc. and A.H. students and post graduate programme leading to the award of M.V.Sc. in the subject of Animal Reproduction programme was started from the year 1977-78. The department has facilities for conducting research on fertility improvement in farm animals.
Mandate
- Improvement of fertility in Red Kandhari cows.
- To provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for alleviation of infertility problems in Marathwada region.
- To provide adoptable reproductive technologies in domestic animals for doubling the farmers’ income.
- To provide technical support to the field veterinarians for effective implementation of controlled reproduction.
- To recommend preventive packages for the improvement of reproductive health.

Future Plans
- Referral units in Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics: The financial resources obtained from the dairy cattle forms a major contribution to the country’s economy. Hence timely augmentation of production in these animals is essential. The following units are proposed to be established in the next 20 years.
- Infertility center: It will exclusively specialize in the infertility of farm and pet animals. Emphasize is not required to be the importance of reproduction in farm animals which has direct effect on the economy of a farmer.
- Andrology center: The correction of hormonal imbalances in an unproductive animal will be objective of this unit to return the animal to productivity to enhance the economy of dairy farmer.
- Neonatal care center: The unit facilities in the management of post parturient dam as well as neonatal in producing the morbidity/ mortality in the post parturient dams/ neonatal calves.
- Clinical embryo transfer unit: The transfer of embryos in clinical animals owned by small farmers to augment production of quality animals.
