The Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology was established during the year 1972, with the inception of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in the Marathwada Agricultural University at Parbhani. Dr. P.N. Karalgikar was the founder Head of the Department. He was succeeded by Dr. K.R. Wagh, who continued till October 1993. Dr. Wagh, Dr. Vani Prasad Vadlamudi took the charge as Professor& Head of the Department from November, 1993 and continued till 2002.
Then Dr. M.I. Qureshi has handed over the charge of Professor & University Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology till 31st Dec 2009. Subsequently the charge has been transferred to Dr. S.R. Rajurkar (01/01/2010 to 01/02/2012).
Dr. P. R. More taken over the charge of Professor & Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology on dated 02/02/2012 and after his superannuation, Dr. S. R. Rajurkar has again took the charge as Professor, Dept. of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
Till date 72 students have completed M.V.Sc degree and 6 have completed their PhD.

The department has well equipment facility for Lab Animal House as per the CPCSEA guidelines. College also constitute the Institutional animal Ethical Committee for laboratory animal research studies.
MILAN-2018 was organized at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Parbhani on June 2, 2018. Dr. N.D. Jadhav, Asst. Professor of Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology was an Organizing Secretary of this MILAN-2018. The function was collaborative efforts between Veterinary college i.e. COVAS, Parbhani and premier research institute in Veterinary Sciences i.e. National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Hyderabad (Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi).
The department staffs have been regularly participating in the entire extension programme and trainings of veterinary college faculty and those which are organized by the university. The departmental staffs deliver lectures on animal health and plant poisonings in animals to farmers, village workers and other trainees during the work campaigns and mass training programme. The staff of department participated in more than 10 Television programme on the different aspects of livestock health production and disease control
The staff of department delivered more than 100 radio talks and participated in discussions on the different aspects of livestock health production and disease control during farmer’s programme of ALL INDIA RADIO. The staff published several popular articles in Marathi and research articles in National Journals
